As a low-intermediate player, I find this book to be a wonderful warm-up and refresher for endgame tactics. All the positions are taken from actual games (in the style of the "Tactics Time" books by Brennan and Carson), with a problem on one page and the solution on the next. The diagrams are crisp and clear, and Pereira continues the new approach of putting black to play on the bottom, as it appears in a real game. Additionally, the positions are entirely random, not orgainized by themes such as pins, Xray, discovery, etc. All we know is the side to play, as in a real game.This is definitely not a book for the advanced player, unless of course he wants to skim through a few dozen problems very rapidly to keep his eye sharp, but for someone of my level it's very helpful and instructive.

The layout looks fine to me; maybe that problem got fixed? My only suggestion is that there be a link to each pgn file, so that I can play with the puzzle in my analyzer after I finish.
Difficulty increases though the book. Good variety. Taken from actual game situations. Endgame or at transition to endgame. No clues. Instructive themes. Definitely a bargain at this modest cost. Good clear diagrams. Puzzle on one page, solution on the next.
I’ve become convinced over the last few years that practicing tactical exercises is the best way for a class player to improve and actually raise their rating. Any studying that I used to do made me feel like I was learning something, but in retrospect, my rating wasn’t increasing. Once I started studying tactics my rating actually went up a couple of hundred points.
I really like the format of this ebook where the problem is on one page and the answer is on the next. Also, he repeats the original diagram on the answer page with an arrow indicating the first move of the solution so you don’t need to move back and forth between the answer page and the problem page – a nice touch!
I also like the fact that the difficulty of the tactics increases as you progress through the book.
The thing that sets this book apart from other tactics books is that it focuses entirely on the endgame whereas other tactics books pretty much deal only with the middlegame. There’s nothing wrong with focusing on the middlegame, but it’s nice to have a book that focuses entirely on the endgame.
I recommend this book wholeheartedly!
I really enjoyed this book. I like that he didn't categorize the puzzles or give you hints. I haven't played chess in over 10 years and was never a strong player but he gives good advice at the end of the book, and focusing on tactics and end games puzzles is sure to help my game. I wouldn't say they were real difficult but he is really trying to get you to see patterns and think tactically. Well done, and a good value.
I am a unashamed Asim Pereira fan. I returned to chess this year after a break of forty years. I played at school but never really bothered to learn much more than the basic moves. I started trying to study with a book and a chess set but then found Asim's brilliant Android chess apps that made studying so much easier. These led me to these two books. They live on my kindle. I'm working my way through them and seeing a great improvement in my game and my depth of knowledge. They are both beautifully laid out and the number and verity of problems he has found is mind blowering. All from actual games.
I LOVE this book. So many books focus on miscellaneous tactics, which are necessary, or openings. But once you are able to get through the middle game you have GOT to know endgame positions and tactics. I will be reviewing this material for a long time.

I have a 4 (the generation before Paperwhite) and had no problems with this book.
The formatting is straightforward puzzle on one page; puzzle repeated on next page with solution. Good work.
The problems are run-of-the-mill double attacks, lots of "R x minor piece" followed by "knight fork". There are a few interesting pawn positions. A common theme is trading a lot of pieces into a pawn ending that is won. This is more of an exercise book (stuff you should see all the time) rather than a book of rare and beautiful positions.
Not enough "play and draw" or defensive problems.
The hardest problems are suitable for players of 1600-1800 strength.
